Fitbit Captivate is a wellness conference attended by human resource, benefits and corporate wellness professionals who manage and/or incorporate Fitbit devices into their companies wellness programs. I was fortunate to DJ this conference in San Francisco and equally grateful to make the trip to Chicago to spin my Fitbit vinyl for this years conference at Revel Motor Row.

The full day of DJing included three extended sets with a couple of short sets during conference breaks. The purpose was to provide a funky atmosphere and beats that would keep the attendees engaged throughout the day.

When it comes to DJing weddings I sometimes meet people for the first time on their wedding day. There are times when I meet couples via a mutual friend, before they are engaged and eventually DJ their wedding. And sometimes I meet someone who isn’t even dating anyone and years later, I end up DJing their wedding.

Such is the case with Sheri and how I came to be the DJ of her and Jason’s wedding at the Lodge at Torrey Pines on September 2, 2017.

Sheri and I met at Torrey Pines State Preserve in early 2014. I was attending a run club meet up she was leading in early 2014. Fittingly, three years later, we were just a few miles from that spot, celebrating her and Jason’s wedding at the Lodge.

It was one of those “over the top” beautiful events. An outdoor dining space overlooking the famed Torrey Pines 18th green and then moving inside to a dance space that we dubbed “Club Kimmel.”

And what a dance party it was. While we had a few short dance sets during dinner, it was inside where things cranked up. With just a couple of hours, there was no time to build up, just hit hard with some great dance tracks filled in with plenty of the bride's favorite, Justin Timberblake.

Bianca and Chuck’s Bayside Wedding Party - Kona Kai Wedding

Straight out of Vanity Fair, Chuck and Bianca’s wedding party at the Kona Kai Resort and Spa

The “travel” theme was carried out even on this wedding cake. 

Bianca and Chuck’s wedding at the Kona Kai Resort and Spa on September 1, 2017 was no small affair. With more than 300 guests filling out the venues largest ballroom, it was full of friends and family that were there to celebrate this special couple.

When it came time for the dance party, those hundreds of guests filled out the floor. There were so many great dance tunes, highlighted by Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer,” a nod to Bianca who is a San Diego County sheriff.

Koi Bar Celebrates One Year Anniversary With A Party

San Diego DJ, Justin Kanoya, spins music at the one year anniversary party for Koi Bar. 

Koi Bar is the lounge attached to Emerald Chinese Cuisine. While the restaurant has been a fixture in San Diego for many years, the lounge only opened up last year. Obviously, this one year anniversary is a call for a celebration, so Koi opened up its doors to drink and food specials for its One-Derful Anniversary Party on August 25.

It was a great night to play an open format setlist to just set a nice lounge vibe.
